Let’s talk about whether or not you’re ready to take your calligraphy hobby and turn it into a business! Two years ago, when I discovered calligraphy on Pinterest, I actually knew right away that I wanted to turn it into a business.

If you fell in love with calligraphy and also considered starting a business, you probably have asked yourself, “But how?”

Today, I’m going to share 4 signs that show if you’re ready to take things to the next level! You can also check out this YouTube video I have on these 4 signs here:

1. “Could I Possibly Do This Too?”

The first sign that you’re ready to start a business is if you have a little voice inside your head asking “Could I do this too?”  Maybe you follow a lot of other calligraphers on Instagram and think, “If they can do it, does this mean I can do it, too?”

For the longest time, I followed a lot of other creative entrepreneurs and digital entrepreneurs that inspired me to start my calligraphy business. I was inspired by them and asked myself if this might be possible for me too. Perhaps if they could do it, then I could do it too. I felt encouraged, so I decided to give myself a chance and try it out.

I truly believe that you can do anything that you put your mind to as long as you work smart and have the right resources. You should take that little voice inside of you and turn it into something!

2. You Want To Make $$$

When you’re practicing your calligraphy at home, maybe another thing you’ve asked yourself is, “What if I could make money with this?” If you have the desire and hope to make money with calligraphy or have friends bugging you to start a shop, this is definitely a sign.

3. You Want To Do More With Your Time

The third sign is that you have extra time in your day and you want to use it up. You want to spend this time doing more with your calligraphy, growing your social media, or even starting up an Etsy or a website.

You can start off by taking 20 minutes out of your day and using that time to do something for your business. This can be posting on Instagram, or watching a YouTube video on how to start a calligraphy business.  I have a blog post here on how you can grow your Instagram as a calligrapher if you want to learn some strategies on how to grow your following

Even after a week, you’re going to gain a lot of knowledge that you can implement into your business. Devoting a couple minutes into your business per day can actually add up to a lot, as long as you stay consistent.

When I used to work a 9-5 job, I used my commute time to listen to business podcasts the entire time. If you feel that you don’t have time to actively work on your business, you can always consume resources like business audiobooks while you’re doing mundane tasks like cooking or cleaning.

4. You’re Ready To Get Down To Work

The final sign that proves that you’re ready to get your calligraphy business started is that you’re ready to get down to work. Starting a business can be stressful, and maybe even a little annoying sometimes. You’re going to have to remember that it won’t always be sunshine and rainbows all the time.

Running your business might even require you to step outside of your comfort zone sometimes - like reaching out to new people or posting more about yourself.

However, new experiences or discomfort can lead to growth, and if you’re ready to do those things and put yourself out there, then I’d say you're ready to start a calligraphy business.

If you know that you really want to do this, it'll be worth it! At the end of though, even though you might not want to put yourself out there, it’s fun!

Speaking from personal experience, I think running a business is one of the most fun things I’ve ever done in my life despite all the challenges. Check out my 2019 year in review to learn more about my journey.

Remember to have fun, or else why else would you be doing it?
